I have researched from there and back again for a good sling to put on my Springfield saint edge. I looked at nylon, biothane, leather, you name it and I have read up on it or watched reviews. I kept returning, however, to Mean Gene’s 2 point sling. In this instance, “the description and pictures do not do the product justice”, is an accurate statement. The sling I have received is peerless. It is made of thick strong leather and expertly dyed black. There is neither a stitch nor rivet out of place and the qd swivels work perfectly for me. Adjusting the sling has been a breeze, yet once I have it where I want it, there is no give or slippage. The leather is stiff, yes, but this is real leather and it will break in well with use and looked forward to range time. If you have taken the time to read this review, thank you. This is an amazingly well made sling that is worth far more than Mr. Gene is asking g for it. You cannot go wrong with this one.

Wow! I’m honored to place the first review. Although you can read a whole bunch of reviews online, I’ve never met Gene, I paid full price and this is unsolicited. For many years the high price of gun belts kept me from buying a leather gun belt. I love my Wilderness belts but always wanted a less tactical leather gun belt. Somehow, when I was researching leather belts it became evident that unlike most belt makers, Gene “get’s it”. It didn’t seem like such a gamble. I emailed MGL with sizing questions and Gene got back to me immediately with answers. When my MGL Shooters Belt arrived I was blown away. Gene’s background as a saddle maker (I read that somewhere) sure is evident. It is super burly with bombproof construction. The Crazy Horse color looks amazing and contrasts very well with the Old Sand color double stitching. I opted for the 1 3/4″ and it is one hell of a belt. I’m fairly certain I could lift the front end of my truck with this thing. Even though this belt will probably last longer than I will, I may order another one in another color at some point, it’s a work of art. In short, I’ll call it the M-O-A-B, Mother Of All Belts.

I bought this belt about a year ago. It didn’t fit right at first, but Gene made it right. This belt is probably the best made thing I own. Its on par with a high end custom 1911 or a new pickup. I wear it daily for IWB carry, and use several times a month to compete in IDPA and USPSA. I’ll be able to leave it to my grandkids and they will be able to pass it down to their grandkids. There is no way this thing can be worn out. Its good to see a master craftsman making products of this quality. I would even lean toward calling it art. Thanks Gene.

I just received my 1.75” wide Crazy Horse Shooters Belt. Very impressed with the quality, thickness and craftsmanship. I got it to help support the weight of a fullsize 1911 and spare mag, and it does that very well. I have other, less expensive “gun belts,” but like the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” I struggled with the other belts, but Mean Gene’s belt is in a class by itself. It easily handles the weight and makes carrying a heavier fullsize more comfortable.

Now, this belt is kind of thick. It’s noticeably thicker than my other, cheaper gun belts, but not so thick they won’t fit through my pants belt loops. They fit through those just fine. However, my holster, that supposedly works with 1.75” wide belts, won’t fit without some effort. But a little file work on the holster belt slots cured that issue.easily. This belt looks like it’ll last a very long time.

On top of all that, it looks great and arrived in less than a week’s time after placing my order online. By contrast, other high end gun belt makers had estimates of several weeks before shipping. So I was pleasantly surprised when I got mine so quickly.

Highly recommend this belt to anyone looking for a high quality, great looking, long lasting gun belt that’ll easily support a heavy fullsize gun and spare mag.

Mr. Gene is not only a master craftsman, but a hell of a nice guy (don’t let the name fool you)! I ordered two of these belts for some unit members who were looking for a unique, sturdy gunbelt that had a cobra buckle with a D-ring, and Mr. Gene delivered in spades. We absolutely could not get over the quality of materials, the craftsmanship of assembly, and the incredibly rugged beauty of the final product. Stack 11 of the 48 quarters vertically at the end. Start from the bottom. Use a small prybar and screwdriver to wiggle and even out the stack while loading. The last 2 aren’t easy to load, used a small jeweler’s hammer. With an even stack load the remaing 37 horizontally, squeeze the links of the zipper as you zip it up, slowly, link by link, and you’re good to go. Spoke with Gene 7/16/21, he will post further information after a well earned vacation. This product is solid, and Gene is a superb craftsman and gentleman. This thing is well built and THICC (with 2 C’;s lol) when you first get it, it will be very stiff and needs time to wear in. I actually hit mine with some leather conditioner along with keeping it filled with 48 Quarters loaded to the best of my ability while following the information provided by the prior Review, It sucks loading it especially when its new, but because its so well built that’s what you should expect. If it were easy then its probably not correctly built. I love this “coin purse” it’s now a full time part of my EDC, I wear it with pants, shorts and dress clothes without any issue and no questions which is why I bought it in the first place. Gene’s quality and craftsmanship shows even in a piece like this. I highly recommend it and if you are on the fence about getting one, I would recommend this one as this will most likely fit everyone’s EDC quite well.

Excellent, awesome workmanship, lightweight but strong, beautiful leather and stitching, extra strong zipper and snap. Unnoticeable on belt loop and smoothly detached when needed.
Fits in palm of hand and belt loop strong and stays put . Highly recommended. Fits several dollars mixed coins.

Great service from Mean Gene Leather. I ordered the mini hot tamale coin purse over the normal sized one as I like to be a tad more discreet here in the UK. It took a while to come (I think the package did a detour) but I was confident that it would arrive eventually. The pandemic we’re all going through probably didn’t help matters.
It’s beautifully crafted and solid. Stitching, leather work, second to none Had a few issues initially with the press stud and stiffness of the leather in general but it’s fine now I’ve taken it on and off my belt a few times and got coins in and out. Also, that tells me how well it’s made and the quality of leather!
Over all highly recommended. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy off Mean Gene Leather again. Cheers.

Very thick and stiff leather with a heavy duty zipper, this coin bag will last. Fully stuffed mine holds about $18 in change 13 or 14oz after break in.

A little larger than it looks in the pics, I have medium hands and can put 4 fingers on the handle easily.

I love mine… only taken just short of a week to break it in to what I feel is it’s capacity. I’ve got 45$ worth of gold dollar coins in it. (Roughly 42.4oz)

Wears well on my 1.75” belt, the snaps are perfectly placed, and even given the weight it’s VERY comfortable to wear.

Deploying it takes no time, and it has some serious impact.

I recently purchased a V-1 coin pouch from Gene. I have never met him in person but spoke to him recently by phone. I found him to be very sincere , helpful, and friendly. I told him about my background as a retired police officer with damaged arthritic hands. He told me about his idea to add a retractable wrist strap which I promptly ordered. Long time use of this Hot tamale V-2 with years of use and carring change. Its shape is great espicaly for extremly non-permisive enviroments/countries and dosent draw any attenion when compared to other coin purses. Experimenting with where best to carry on the belt and I have found It’s rectangle shape is also perfect for pendix carry which other coin purses could not do due to their long downwards shape.

I highly reccomend this purse in extreme non-permisive enviroments and countries where weapon carry is frowned apon as other purses will not pass those enviorments.

Received my V2 just the other day. Very easy to stuff it with various coins once I got the leather pliable. It ended up weighing in 19.62 Oz. Gave it a workout on my outdoor punching bag and it really packs a wallop. I ordered the antique Brown version and it’s a handsome piece. Spoke to Mean Gene twice before I ordered V2. Quite an interesting man with a good story. Highly of recommend his products. The build quality is outstanding. Oh and watch out Karen so you don’t get slapped with my coin purse LOL

This is an extremely well made item and worth every penny. The leather is high quality and it breaks in without too much effort. Not sure how covert the item is though. Given the youth and lack of worldly knowledge of many of today’s younger police officers, I’m not sure how familiar they would be readily identifying this as a black jack or sap. They might just buy the “change purse” story. The only manufacturing fault I found, and it’s very minor, is the long term quality of the zipper. Time will tell, but this looks like a real winner.

Comfortable to carry and extremely durable. This is a perfect combination of innovation and craftsmanship. I v’e carried mine everyday for the last three weeks and i could not be any happier with the Hot Tamale.

Ingenious product! I purchased one with the intention to give it to my wife while she wait for a CPL but had to go back to the register for another one for myself! Best, less than lethal “coin purse” or any other product in the same realm for that matter. The ergonomics are so simple, I’m kicking my own butt for not thinking of it myself. Useful for BOTH designs it was intended for!

I recently ordered the “Hot Tamale”. I have been carrying it and using it as a coin pouch everyday for the last two weeks. I must say that this is a great item and worth every penny. The zipper is smooth. It doesn’t drag or catch on itself or the leather. The leather is thick, not bulky, but nice thick and solid feeling in my hand. There has been no staining or residue from the leathers finish. I have not seen a single thread ‘pop out’. This thing is very well crafted, with quality materials and a slimplistic design. For European customers you can fit 15x € 2,00 euro coins and 20x € 1,00 euro coins in it, and it will get better when the coin purse ages.

Have been carrying mine for a few days now and absolutely love it. Trying to decide what coins are going to give me the most weight. Have nickels in it right now, but I’ve been told I could make it heavier using dimes?

This is a great product. It retains cuffs well and it’s easy to stow cuffs with one hand. Additionally, it works as a hasty rifle mag pouch should you need it to.
